My travel journey started while I was a school kid and my parents used to take me to excursion trips to various destinations during summer vacations. My father had a 1978 model Royal Enfield Bullet which he bought in his young days. He sold off this beautiful bike in 1984 i was about 2 years old then. But I guess the biking DNA got infused into me from my father. I used to look at his pictures on his bike and his motorcycle tours. This inspired me to buy a Royal Enfield. I passed out class 10th and forced my dad to buy me a Royal Enfield. He was scared to give me this heavy metal as of course I was just a young lad. But inside my heart I knew I can HANDLE it!
After intervention of my mother and elder brother my father finally bought me a Royal Enfield Standard 350cc in 1998 yay!! I still ride this dear bullet of mine.
Slowly my travel bug shifted its gear from car touring to motorcycle touring. My first ever long ride on my Bullet Motorcycle was to Morni Hills & Tikkar Tal (about 40km from Chandigarh being my home town). I met with a small accident during this ride. I hurt my knees and elbow badly. Two of my friends who were also on their Bullet motorcycle took me home. I was in pain and bed rest for a week but that did not stop me from riding my bike again xD . By the pace of time i started scaling the high altitudes of Himachal Pradesh were I learned the love of Himalayas and become more closer to my bike. I used to meet bikers on the highways and take biking tips from them. This is how I learned initially. Back is early 2000 there no riding gears and awareness which we have now a days. We used to just wear Jeans and Winter Jackets to cover us up however today we have professional riding gears, Riding Jackets which are of great help. It save you from a fatal accident.
In 2006, I with couple of my college friends planned a motorcycle trip to Leh Ladakh. It was a 15 days tour. We were young and were all set to leave for Leh Ladakh but before that the biggest obstacle was permission from parents to go to Leh on Bikes xD yikes!!!!! This was on ordeal i had to go through, I knew they would never allow me to go on this trip. So I had to lie to them that I am going to my friend’s native place which was in Distt Kinnaur, HP. The scene was set and we 4 college boys started off our journey to the beautiful Leh Ladakh. It was so beautiful and neat during that year. We spent time in Pangong Lake, Nubra, Magnetic Hill only. We were not aware of other places then. This ride was one breathtaking ride of us however it gave us immense learning of the real biking world. I suggest one should definitely go to Leh/ Ladakh once oh his/ her bike. You will have memories for the lifetime.
After i graduated out from college i worked for multiple MNCs like Dell, TATA Teleservices, HCL Comnet & Wipro IT Ltd and simultaneously continued my love towards motorcycle rides. In 2010 i went to a SOLO bike trip to Rajasthan. I covered Jaipur, Udaipur, Mount Abu, Jaisalmer & while returning back i also went to Ajmer Dargah Sharif and Pushkar. Rajasthan is again a paradise for Bikers. Ancient forts and the Rajasthani Culture attracted me the most. For me travelling is just not that I have throttle my bike’s engine to reach a spot, it is to witness the scenic beauty of a state, get involved with the locals and understand their culture and way of living. Try out different dishes (am a crazy foodie). I was posted in Delhi NCR where came in contact with various renowned riding clubs where I further enhanced my biking skills and my travel diaries started building up. I have covered most parts of Himachal Pardesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab on my bike. I have seen most of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh & Mumbai on my car.
While I was riding solo and in groups I learnt that a biker is a free soul human being who has his love towards his machine and at the same time they are through this passion they spread messages of humanity, love & social awareness. Bikers for a cause are the true bikers.
After serving in various MNCs for 7 years, In 2015, I moved back to my hometown Chandigarh. I lost my dear mother. She was fighting Cancer. I was working in Wipro Technologies Noida as Asst Manager Operation at that time. I had to take the most difficult call to move back to Chandigarh as my father became alone after the sad demise of my mother. I spoke to my wife about this situation and we started planning to open a small business in Chandigarh as there were very less job options in Chandigarh market. As biking was my passion and I had to come to Chandigarh where this biking keeda was actually missing I planned to open a Biker’s Cafe. Rohini (my wife) supported my this decision and stood by me from making my this dream come true. In Oct 2015 I open the first biker’s cafe of Chandigarh and named it “THE BULLET CAFE”. It is on the Ambala Kalka Shimla Highway. The interiors of my cafe were designed by me. I did not hire any professional instead I applied my own experience & strategies to give a RAW biker’s cafe feel to the biking brotherhood. The furniture which I built is made out of used four wheel tyres to make chairs and rims of bikes were converted into tables. It was not so easy to do this.
My Cafe has a small Coffee Shop, A Workshop where we do Bike modifications and repairs & I also deal in Riding Gears and Performance Parts. It is a theme cafe which is different from other cafes, everything under ONE HOOD. After opening THE BULLET CAFE next task was to form a Biking Group. I met many bikers and bike owners who were either my customers or friends. Screened them to find out their passion towards their machine and touring. Today there are 85 active members in my club. We named it “The Bullet Cafe Motorcycling Club”. We also have 4 lady riders who own and ride their Bullet motorcycles and 81 male riders owning bullets and harleys. We together as a family do Breakfast Rides, Long Distance Rides & majorly cause rides. Latest cause ride which we did was for the Indian Army Blood Donation Camp. It was organized by an NGO based in Chandigarh who work for the Indian Army Casualty Fund raising & Tribute Ride for the Fallen Riders. This ride was organized under the banner of Bikers of India (BOI). I have also formed the BOI Panel in Chandigarh which will act as a body to promote cause rides and biking clubs who are willing to ride for a cause.
In the past we have done cause rides like Bikers Against Women Exploitation, Save the girl child, Each One Teach One, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Tribute Ride organized by a large biking group of Delhi. We keep supporting the weak and spreading the message of love and oneness for a better tomorrow. On 25th Feb 2017 we are going to Spiti Valley for our Winter Spiti Ride. This ride will be an adventure ride cum cause ride. We have collected 20k rupees which we will be donating in a monastery to sponsor annual school fee of 2 kids.
I am an active member in all biking events that takes place in and around Chandigarh. I have a very healthy relation with Royal Enfield dealers in Chandigarh who help us sponsoring our cause rides. They also call me for the testing of their newly released motorcycles. Yesterday me and my club was invited by United Motors to test drive their latest bike models names Commando & Renegade. This is not the end of the story. We have upcoming cause ride for Martyr Shaheed Bhagant Singh which is being organized by a renowned riding club of Delhi. We will be go there in full throttle and we are promoting this ride in Chandigarh and Punjab.
Its been 1.5 years since THE BULLET CAFE is active and has marked its presence in the biking fraternity and various events. We are called the most decent and respectful group of Chandigarh. We only add members if they have a zeal to help the society and true love towards their machines.
