You spend a lot of your life fulfilling expectations others have of you. You get a degree, throw yourself into a corporate rut to earn big bucks and you find yourself squandering all your time away to only fit into a box, confined by society.
As a woman, the expectation threshold is consistently higher, to settle down at a marriage worthy age, starting a family that continues to plunge deeper into society orchestrated norms. The weight of expectations only carries forward from one generation to the next.
For a long time in my life, I continued to succumb to external pressures. My life remained confined to what seemed appropriate for a woman of my age and character, until I fell in love with a monster.
It’s not an investment in a person that I’m referring to here, but my mean machine, the KTM RC390 which continues to be my deadliest, yet most delightful investment. All I knew then is that speed fascinates me. Being one with my bike, the adrenaline pumping machine, is a complete thrill by itself. When I ride the bike at top speed, fighting wind with speed, with the intoxicating rush of disappearing street lights, I felt at home.
I call my bike a monster because of its sleek style. It’s a 43ps with a top speed design of a 176km/hr. Although it’s single cylinder is woeful to bike enthusiasts, it can efficiently pull off 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds.
Personally, I can vouch that this a great puller for anyone who loves throttling like time escaping existence in itself. I’ve survived plenty alone nights with it’s phenomenal visibility and clear view. My monster is economical too, with 10 litres of tank capacity and a classy finish tank look.
The braking system is mesmerising with the support of ABS, it’s a killer machine that won’t kill you. Many users have shared incidents wherein the ABS has been a life saver for them. With a kerb weight of 147kgs and a wet weight of 154kgs, the KTM Rc is categorised as a track oriented machine due to its fibre body and perfect body fit feeling for the rider seated with a light machine. It’s got a great power pack performance with the sticky Metzelers making the ride feel planted.
The Metzelers being a soft compound acts like a perfect blend for corner lovers who like to drag their knee down at a sharp corner, entrusting their faith on their machine. After experimenting with different tyres, I am fascinated with the amazing compatibility these tyres have with the RC390.
Being a woman rider comes with its on set of prejudice and gender challenges. I’ve set my faith in my roaring machine that fades every disapproving voice in the backdrop. The riding tremors with a powerful voice of its own, that is loud enough to silence everything else. Take the chance and trust in your bike. It will take you places.
