My name is Nitin Aka Guru Aka Incarnation. I have been riding bike since a long time now, it all started with a 96 model Yezdi Roadking which we owned back then I was 17 then i’m almost 38 now there have been many bikes first bike being splendor followed by a pulsar then a Yamaha FZ which was followed by Avenger which again was followed by another Avenger at this point I wanted a bike which me and my dad both where comfortable with so the search began this time around it was supposed to be yesteryear bike so after a lot of thought I considered to go for a per-worshiped Yezdi Jawa however given the absurd pricing thought of going in for a modern machine with Retro Feel yes so Royal Enfield it was.
Now comes the second part which Royal Enfield to buy, Bullet was considered but given the specs bullet 350 was out of the league. It was time for classic Dad loved the classic me too but I was more fixated on a TB.
After a long discussion Dads being Dads my choice was given the preference and I booked a TB 500 Stone. Wait time was around 90 days and hence our waiting period started, and like a young kid asking for candies I always used to call the showroom to find out if some cancellation for the same color has happened so that we can get it early.
Destiny had something else in store for us, one day one of my friends walk into our house after a long time and we start chit chatting and he says he is willing to let go of his classic 350 which was a couple years old and had done only 16k on the ODO.
Me and My dad look at each other go to the parking inspect the bike and guess what it’s a classic 350 which dad had originally shortlisted for us. Now it was my turn to return the favor so I picked up the classic and canceled the TB500 order.
Thus became the proud owner of RE Classic 350, I Named him “ATOM “days went by me and my dad started enjoying the rides and my first long ride on it happened and that was a stretch of 400 km and that’s the day I realized though the bike is awesome I need some customization on it hence a customization project was started.
Then slowly the customization started.
List of items to be changed :- Front Brake & Gear System, Broader Rear Tyre, Seats, Handlebar, Silencer, New Paint Scheme, Chromed parts, Alloy Wheels.
Procured few items like Front brake and gear components, Alloy wheels and Broader Rear Tyre but as the swing arm wouldn’t give way to broader tyre the swing arm had to be changed and hence changed the swing arm to a broader one.
This is how Atom looked after the first stage of modification. However there was a lot that had to be done. Im no designer so I drew nothing the sketch was in my mind I knew how I wanted my bike to look.
I planned to build an extra ring around the headlight so that it would look unique as well as decent. When I was doing so much I thought might as well change the design of the mudguard so designed the mudguards to give it that retro feel.
You can see that the headlight has been extended. however the the original setting of the light is not disturbed. it sits as in stock condition however only a extended ring was made so that the headlight looks extended.
Once all the tinkering work was done, sent all the parts for chroming. The list of things that were chromed.
1. Headlight Casing
2. Carb Cover
3. Fork Tubes
4. Battery Cover
5. Rear Mudguard Support.
6. The extra Headlight Ring which was Fabricated.
7. The rod to hold the Fog lights as well as indicator as in Heritage Classic
8. Silencer Bend Pipe as it was full of rest at the neck which goes into the silencer flower bracket.
The engine casing as well as the gearbox casing the starter cover, the head cover as well as thefront forks where buffed.
When all this was being done i was thinking of giving a two tone color for the bull. the color selected was Amber Whiskey & Pearl Grey.
When the paint was finalized i wanted pin striping to differentiate between the two colors but as i live in remote rural place. The craft man ship required for pin-striping wasn’t available hence settled from pin striping using vinyl.
Also The Monograms were designed as I wanted something different as well as the name i had christened it with was supposed to be on the bike. planned all that. and the parts were given for painting.
Once the assembly was done for the test Run this is how Atom Looked. After the test Run he was given a new and wider Handlebar so that it completes the look.
There are countless rides I have done with him now. If im happy he is the companion on my ride, If I’m depressed he pulls my mood up, and if i’m angry a short spin with him gets me chirpy again. This is been my journey with Atom, Proud of my pal and proud because of my pal.
